چکیده
Foreword It is my privilege to write these introductory comments on the Proceedings ofthe Workshop/Con-ference on the Role of Metals in Carcinogenesis. The field of metal carcinogenicity, although not new, has moved into an area of even greater prominence and urgency. We of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and its sister institutes, the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, feel that this is an issue of high priority, and each institute accordingly gave support to this Workshop. We also acknowledge the valuable support provided to the Workshop's organizers by the Scientific Committee on the Toxicology of Metals of the Permanent Commission and International Association on Occupational Health. The Workshop brought together some 18 individual reports from eminent scientists, as well as a joint report containing a group of thoughtful conclusions and recommendations for future research. NIOSH will very carefully review these conclusions and recommendations in planning our own laboratory research and field studies. We believe this will be a valuable addition to initiatives already underway in NIOSH to further improve workers' health and safety.

Exposure of health care workers to antineoplastic drugs and subsequent adverse health effects is still an open issue. Very little has been studied on the extent of occupational exposure and handling conditions of antineoplastic drugs in Iran. We aimed to determine cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide concentrations in the urine samples of oncology healthcare workers. In addition, we assessed workpla...

It is the second most prevalent reported risk factor in workplaces that can lead to potential manual handling accidents and longer-term musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The aim of this study was the evaluation of manual material handling using the American National...

As high-throughput technologies in genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics evolve, questions arise about their use in the assessment of occupational cancers. To address these questions, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the American Chemistry Council sponsored a workshop 8-9 Ma...
متن کاملAsian Implications of Aflatoxin and Dioxin Foodborne Chemical Exposures Based on World Health Organization Estimates
All people need food. Unsafe foods; however, may cause diseases ranging from diarrhea to cancer. Chemicals in food are a worldwide health concern. In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) organized a consultation on the global burden of foodborne diseases. Work to estimate this burden began in 2007 and was carried out by the WHO Foodborne Disease Burden Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG), ...
